About UPS & Our Culture

Every package that leaves a UPS fulfillment center on time and correctly routed does so because a skilled Shipping Associate completed the outbound documentation, seal verification, and trailer release process correctly. Our Fulfillment Center Shipping Associates sit at the critical junction between the sort floor and the transportation network — the final checkpoint before millions of packages enter the road, air, and rail systems that carry them to their destinations. If you are searching for shipping associate jobs near me that blend hands-on dock work with systems-level documentation responsibility, the UPS outbound shipping role is the most operationally significant position in our fulfillment lineup.

What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)

"The shipping associate role at UPS is where the rubber meets the road — literally. I verify trailer seals, confirm outbound manifests, coordinate with drivers, and release trailers on the hard departure schedule. The responsibility is real and UPS pays for it. The Teamsters wage for this role is higher than standard sort work, and the career path into transportation management from outbound shipping is one of the clearest I have seen in the industry. Best shipping associate job in this market by a significant margin." - Current Shipping Associate, Louisville, KY.

Role Overview & Responsibilities

As a UPS Fulfillment Center Shipping Associate, you manage all outbound trailer documentation, seal compliance, and carrier coordination at the dock level of our fulfillment center, ensuring every outbound trailer departs with verified contents, correct paperwork, and intact seals before its scheduled departure time.

• Outbound Trailer Documentation: Generate and verify bills of lading, outbound package count manifests, and seal log records for every departing trailer, confirming system data matches physical trailer contents before authorizing the dock seal to be applied.
• Seal Application & Verification: Apply tamper-evident seals to loaded outbound trailers, recording seal numbers in UPS's transportation management system and cross-referencing with the departure manifest to maintain the chain-of-custody documentation required by UPS compliance and carrier contracts.
• Driver & Carrier Coordination: Interface professionally with arriving linehaul drivers and carrier representatives at the outbound dock, verifying driver credentials, assigning dock doors, confirming trailer assignments, and releasing drivers on schedule according to the hard departure plan.

Benefits & Perks

UPS Fulfillment Center Shipping Associates receive Teamsters union wages with a documentation-role pay premium, full medical, dental, and vision benefits, pension accrual, paid personal time, and UPS Earn & Learn tuition assistance. The outbound shipping role is a direct stepping stone into UPS transportation management, linehaul operations, and supply chain coordination career tracks for associates with the ambition to advance beyond the dock.
